La escena local, atravesada por cambios sociales y culturales, encontr\u00f3 en este nuevo sonido una forma de expresar sus realidades cotidianas y dar identidad a una generaci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n

De la pista de baile a la identidad jamaicana<\/h2>\n

El t\u00e9rmino rocksteady naci\u00f3 en las pistas de baile jamaicanas, reflejando un movimiento corporal sosegado que acompa\u00f1aba el clima cada vez m\u00e1s tenso del pa\u00eds tras su independencia. El g\u00e9nero conservaba el pulso caracter\u00edstico del ska<\/b><\/span>, pero introdujo cambios decisivos<\/b>: el bajo, con l\u00edneas m\u00e1s pesadas y sincopadas, se convirti\u00f3 en el protagonista, mientras que la guitarra r\u00edtmica y la bater\u00eda redujeron la velocidad del tempo. <\/p>\n

El piano, instrumento central en el ska, dio paso al \u00f3rgano el\u00e9ctrico, y los vientos, antes esenciales, comenzaron a desaparecer<\/b>, dando espacio a una m\u00fasica m\u00e1s austera y directa donde la voz y las letras cobraron protagonismo<\/b>.<\/p>\n

Detr\u00e1s de esta innovaci\u00f3n sonora estuvo el trabajo del guitarrista Lynn Taitt<\/b>, originario de Trinidad pero radicado en Jamaica, quien introdujo la guitarra mel\u00f3dica que reforzaba las l\u00edneas de bajo y aportaba una textura nueva y distintiva.<\/p>\n

Adem\u00e1s, la bater\u00eda comenz\u00f3 a marcar el golpe en el tercer tiempo del comp\u00e1s, un antecedente directo del one drop que definir\u00eda el reggae. Contexto social y rude boys: la voz de una generaci\u00f3n marginada<\/h2>\n

El desarrollo del rocksteady no puede entenderse sin el contexto social de Jamaica en los a\u00f1os 60. Tras la independencia, barrios como Trenchtown, Riverton City y Greenwich Town se convirtieron en epicentros de pobreza, hacinamiento y falta de oportunidades. <\/p>\n

De este entorno surgi\u00f3 la figura del rude boy<\/b>, j\u00f3venes marginales y desafiantes, muchas veces vinculados a la violencia callejera, que se convirtieron en protagonistas de las letras del g\u00e9nero.<\/p>\n

El rocksteady comenz\u00f3 a narrar historias de peleas, conflictos con la ley <\/b>y los dilemas de la vida urbana<\/b>, abordando estos temas tanto desde la condena como desde la comprensi\u00f3n. <\/p>\n

Seg\u00fan Indie Hoy<\/i>, \u201cel rocksteady empez\u00f3 a narrar esas historias de peleas y conflictos con la ley, no siempre como glorificaci\u00f3n, sino tambi\u00e9n como condena\u201d. As\u00ed, el g\u00e9nero se transform\u00f3 en un canal de expresi\u00f3n para una juventud que buscaba su lugar en una sociedad convulsionada.<\/p>\n

Entre los referentes m\u00e1s destacados del per\u00edodo se encuentra Alton Ellis<\/b>, a quien muchos consideran el padre del rocksteady, especialmente por su tema \u201cGirl I\u2019ve Got a Date\u201d<\/b>. Otros artistas clave en la consolidaci\u00f3n del g\u00e9nero fueron Hopeton Lewis con \u201cTake It Easy\u201d, Derrick Morgan con \u201cTougher Than Tough\u201d y Roy Shirley con \u201cHold Them\u201d. <\/p>\n

El productor Duke Reid<\/b>, desde su sello Treasure Isle, jug\u00f3 un rol fundamental al trabajar con bandas como The Techniques, The Paragons, The Silvertones y The Jamaicans, ayudando a definir un modelo vocal que influenciar\u00eda al posterior reggae.<\/p>\n

Del auge internacional al nacimiento del reggae<\/h2>\n

El primer gran \u00e9xito internacional del rocksteady lleg\u00f3 de la mano de Johnny Nash<\/b> y su tema \u201cHold Me Tight\u201d, que alcanz\u00f3 el Top 5 tanto en el Reino Unido como en Estados Unidos, demostrando que el sonido nacido en los m\u00e1rgenes de Kingston pod\u00eda trascender fronteras. <\/p>\n

Sin embargo, la era del rocksteady fue breve<\/b>: a fines de los a\u00f1os 60, la migraci\u00f3n de m\u00fasicos, los avances tecnol\u00f3gicos en los estudios y la evoluci\u00f3n de los lenguajes musicales impulsaron el surgimiento de una nueva etapa.<\/p>\n

El g\u00e9nero experiment\u00f3 una sofisticaci\u00f3n en los arreglos y una mayor complejidad en el bajo y la bater\u00eda.
